The Golkar Party finally took the second spot on May 4 after trailing behind the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) for more than a week in the 2009 legislative election manual vote count.
As of May 4, The Democratic Party (PD) so far is still leading the manual count with 14,049,873 votes (19.74 percent). Followed by the Golkar Party in second place with 11,098,597 votes (15.59 percent), while PDI-P slipped to third place with 10,602,475 votes (14.9 percent). The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) in fourth place with 5,901,590 votes (8.29 percent), and the National Mandate Party (PAN) in fifth place with 4,500,550 votes (6.32 percent)
So far, the General Elections Commission (KPU) manual count had recorded 71,180,517 legitimate votes from 50 electorate areas in 22 provinces: North Sumatra, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Lampung, Bangka-Belitung, Riau, Riau Islands, West Java, Central Java, Special District of Yogyakarta, Banten, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, Gorontalo, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, South East Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Gorontalo.
The manual count of around 171 million voters was scheduled to finish by May 9.
There are 44 political parties participating in the recent election. (fmb)
